Today was a housework day for part of the day. We got a late start, sometimes you just have to take it slow, and made Keith an omlette for breakfast. When we got moving went into Albuquerque to do laundry and fill a propane tank. We were fairly close to Albuquerque so it didn’t take long to get there. It was a pretty nice Laundromat, they had like 4 sizes of washers so I could do it in just 2 loads. Thank you Megan for the 2 rolls of quarters. Really helped a lot. As I was loading up the washer, a woman came up to me and asked how to use the machines. I was trying to figure that out myself but she just had a small load so I showed her how to put her soap in and close the door. We got to talking while we waited for our wash to be done and let me tell you she was absolutely facinating. Susan was a MD and LD (lawyer). She got her law degree at 59. She’s now 72. She has a duel specialty in perinatology and endocrinology. She was also a vice chair at a university. And she was born in Wisconsin, Beaver Dam. Small world. Made doing laundry so enjoyable to have someone to talk to. While I was talking to Susan, Keith went into a vintage bookstore. He spent the washing time talking to the owner. He said that he was so interesting and bought me a book on the history of Albuquerque. I don’t think either of us expected to enjoy doing these chores, but we sorta did. While the clothes were drying, we went to get the propane tank filled. I thought it was empty but apparently it wasn’t. But now I don’t have to worry. We went back to get our clothes and while I was folding, Keith got to talk to Susan too. It was nice.
Since the chores were done and we were in Albuquerque, Keith wanted to see the Rio Grande but most of the parks wouldn’t let us take the dog. And it was like 90 degrees. But I found that they would let us have the dog at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park. We had to walk the path the bikes take but at least it was paved. The disadvantage was that there was no shade for most of it. But we were able to get all the was to the Rio Grande. Joey was a really trooper. We had water with us but of course after all day in 90 degrees it was warm. We tried to keep hydrated. We walked about 2 1/4 miles round trip and when were about a block from the cat Joey just laid down. She was done. So Keith went and got the car while I stayed with her. Once we got in the car with the air on high she seemed to be better. Then we went to Whataburger and got soda, ice water for Joey and a Dr. Pepper shake. Now if you’ve never had a Dr. Pepper shake you are truly missing out. I was the best thing I’ve tasted shakewise. It was also again late so we decided to get pizza at a place recommended by the campground. So when we got back to the camper we had very good pizza and Dr. Pepper shake for dessert. Turned into a very nice day. Went to bed early because Keith fell asleep the night before at 7 and got up at 4:30 so I got up too even though I went to bed at 10:30 and I was tired. Goodnight Day 12.
